Compassion: sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress together with a desire to alleviate it (the Merriam-Webster dictionary).
Doesn’t this sound like something the world needs more of?
Not just an awareness, a consciousness of someone’s distress – with no desire to help.
Not just a desire to help others – with no idea who is in need or how to get involved.
Instead, the ability to see a need, recognize the distress of others, and care. To have the earnest desire to make a difference in their situation. And then to get involved.
That’s compassion.
This week I’m thrilled to receive another chance at showing it.
A group of friends and fellow writers (me included) have teamed up with Compassion Canada to raise funds for those living in extreme poverty. The money we raise will provide food, housing, medical care, hygiene supplies, and other essentials for those in more need than ever, due to the effects of COVID-19.
In order to do this, we’re hosting a Write-a-Thon!
From Thursday, October 1st, through Saturday, October 3rd, our team – dubbed the Collaboration of Quills – will be writing short stories to share with donors if we reach our goal. Together we aim to write 50,000 words – the length of a short novel!
With a goal of raising $5,000, we’re spreading the word. Will you partner with us to provide for those in desperate need? Will you help us care for the hungry, the homeless, and the hurt?
In a world craving unity, hope, and compassion, I consider myself very blessed to have this opportunity, and to be able to share those things. I would love for you to have that blessing too.
For all the details, you can find our team page here – or go directly to my personal page.
And of course, feel free to share this post, and/or the above pages.
Together we can make a difference. Together we can be the change we want to see in our world. And together we can be the answer to someone’s prayers.
Will you join us?

‘Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved,
clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.’
(Colossians 3:12 NIV)
