Day #8 of the #cabingirlbooktag! ⚓️ We're app Day #8 of the #cabingirlbooktag! ⚓️

We're approaching the end of the launch tour, but there are still so many great posts coming up! Head over to my website for the latest posts and links, and if you haven't already, don't forget to go join the giveaway! 🔥

Today's tag prompt is about a heart-wrenching betrayal.

For the sake of spoilers, this might be my shortest tag post. However, I can say that there are so many twists in turns in Cabin Girl, and several instances of what I'd call betrayal.

Most people, when they hear of a pirate story, picture something like Pirates of the Caribbean. Something with treasure-hunting, tropical-water-sailing pirates with gold teeth and accents. And those stories are so fun!

Cabin Girl is a bit different though. It focuses on a ship of Barbary pirates instead, slave traders from Africa that hunt the European coast.

And with that darker tone, a more introspective, mysterious story came about. This book still has a good amount of action and pirate adventure, but there's a constant undercurrent of turmoil and dread.

Every time the protagonist thinks she's finally figured things out, she's hit with another unexpected twist - almost always an awful one.

So if you like stories with intrigue and plot twists, you just might enjoy Cabin Girl...why not give it a try?

Have you read a book or watched a movie where there's a heart-wrenching betrayal? Did you see it coming?

⚓️ CABIN GIRL REVIEWS ⚓️ Before I pick up ⚓️ CABIN GIRL REVIEWS ⚓️

Before I pick up a book, I like to hear from other people that have read it, to see whether they enjoyed it or not.

What kinds of comments do they have? What did they like? Will I probably like it too?

Reviews are incredibly important for authors. And in particular, indie authors that don't have a huge marketing budget, rely heavily on reviews to sell books.

Books with lots of reviews (even if there are some negative ones mixed in!) sell so much better than books with no reviews.

As readers, not many of us are willing to give some new author a try if no one else has read that book yet. We don't want to risk our time and money on something we don't know. What if it's awful?

That's where reviews come in. Even if they're just a line or two, that feedback can be the difference between a potential reader giving our books a shot, or being too wary and passing on by.

And whether the reviews are on the marketplace (for me, that would be Amazon), sent directly to the author to be used in posts like this or in marketing materials, or on a review site like Goodreads, they're all so helpful!

There aren't many reviews out there for Cabin Girl yet, but in case you haven't seen the ones that are floating around, I wanted to share some today. Here are a few of them!

(And if you've read Cabin Girl, or plan to soon, please consider leaving a review wherever you're able!)

Thank you to everyone who's already sent feedback and reviews! You are so appreciated ❤️

Today's prompt is about a book where a character overcomes their fear. The protagonist in Cabin Girl definitely had to do that!

Fear and courage are two very prominent themes in Cabin Girl.

The protagonist is not a naturally courageous person, and I can relate to her a lot in that way. She's timid, unsure, and would rather not rock the boat - literally.

But when she's taken from her family and surrounded by cruel pirates AND never-ending ocean, she very quickly has to come to terms with that fear if she's ever going to get home.

God may help her and offer some solutions, but they require some effort on her part, too. They require her to completely trust Him with what's happening, to give Him her fear.

And eventually, she grows enough in both her faith and her courage to start to overcome her fears, one small, shaky step at a time.

Have you read any books where a character overcomes their fear? Can you relate to their struggle?

⚓️ BIBLE VERSES THAT REMIND ME OF CABIN GIRL ⚓️

If you've been following my posts about Cabin Girl, you probably know by now that it's a Christian fiction book. The protagonist is Christian, and there are many Christian themes and values inside.

Not all of my books are explicitly Christian (although they will always have truthful and hopeful values), but it was important to me that Cabin Girl was.

Through the protagonist’s struggles, growth, development, and relationships, I wanted to show very clearly how God can work in our lives as well.

There are so many places in this story that remind me of specific verses from the Bible.

So today I wanted to take a moment and share a few of those verses. Hopefully they give you an even bigger glimpse into the heart behind Cabin Girl.

(And yes, I am aware of the cultural and historical background behind some of these verses. But in many cases, the truths behind them still apply to us today. And with that, they reminded me of this book.)

THE VERSES:

~ Psalm 56:3-4
~ Isaiah 43:2
~ Genesis 50:20
~ Matthew 14:27
~ Joshua 1:9
~ 1 Corinthians 4:7-8
~ 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
~ Psalm 46:1-3
~ 2 Corinthians 5:17

Today's prompt is about a book with a furry friend. I'm so happy to have included a special one in Cabin Girl.

Early drafts of this story did NOT feature this particular furry friend - a loyal and absolutely adorable dog. No, at first, my protagonist was completely alone.

Then, when an early reader (okay, it was my mom) suggested that the protagonist was almost TOO alone in the story and could probably use some other ally, both for her sake, and to keep the story interesting, the idea of a dog came up.

And the story has been so much stronger for it (thanks, Mom!). ❤️

Animals in books are so fun to read about and I've enjoyed having one in Cabin Girl.

Murphy is a lovable oaf...smart, loyal, perceptive, energetic, a strong swimmer (important on a pirate ship), and has an excellent nose for smelling out food. Particularly fish. 😉

He very quickly developed a personality of his own, and ended up being pretty crucial to the plot in many ways.

And although I haven't set a specific breed for him, since I don't know exactly which dogs would have been around in that area and time, I personally picture him as a Newfoundland. Big, hairy, and floppy.

I now have a giant plush dog named after him, and if I ever get a real dog, I'm 99% sure his name will be Murphy as well.

I hope you love him as much as I do!

Have you read any books with adorable furry friends? Which has been your favorite?

I always appreciate having content guides before I read books, especially if I'm trying to figure out whether it'd be a good one to recommend to younger readers.

Day #5 of the #cabingirlbooktag! ⚓️ The launc Day #5 of the #cabingirlbooktag! ⚓️

The launch tour continues with some fun interviews today! Check out my website for the latest posts and links, and don't forget to go join the giveaway - if you haven't already. 🔥

Today's prompt centers around books that deal with tough topics. That definitely includes Cabin Girl.

If you've been following my author journey for very long, you probably know that I'm passionate about sharing stories that are real.

Not real as in non-fiction, but real as in fiction that's honest and realistic and doesn't shy away from the hard things.

I obviously enjoy lighthearted, cute, and feel-good books as much as the next person, so I have nothing against those!

But I personally like most of my novels to have some darkness and difficulty in them - because I want to have something to contrast the hope.

Real life has darkness and hardship, but it also has hope. And that's what I try to communicate in my novels, including this one.

Cabin Girl deals with some pretty tough topics, (you can find a content advisory on Goodreads, or in my other post today), but it doesn't shy away from showing God work in the midst of those difficulties.

This story is first and foremost about a God who works in amazing, mysterious, unexpected ways, even when we don't see how He can.

And that's what I mean by real. Because we have a God that does the same exact thing in our lives today.

Have you read a good book that deals with tough topics? What made its handling of them so great?

Today, we're talking about complicated characters we can't help but love. And since these prompts are Cabin Girl themed, you know that applies to at least one of the characters in the book... 😉

One of my personal complicated favorites in this book is the Captain.

The Captain was actually the character that started this entire process. As soon as he came into my mind, vivid and intriguing, I was hooked. And the rest, as they say...

Captain Gills is a complicated character because he's an antagonist in the story - and a pretty brutal one at that. No spoilers, but what can you expect from an infamous pirate running a slaver's ship?

And yet, he's my favorite character in the book, for many reasons. Again, no specifics, but there are a good number of ARC readers that have echoed that sentiment - or at least found him very interesting as well.

I wonder, will you be one of them? 😁

Who's one of your favorite complicated characters? What makes them so complicated - and why do you love them anyway?

Sickness. Sharks. Sabotage. Secrecy.

In the rolling hills of 1600’s Ireland, young Éirinn O’Connell learns all she can of medicine, struggling to care for her starving family—until the night Barbary pirates raid her village, and she’s dragged from the only home she’s ever known.

Set on a course to the slave markets of Morocco, and amidst a crew as turbulent as the ocean around her, Éirinn searches for a way home. But who can she trust? And how will she survive the Captain’s constant torment? Éirinn soon discovers the danger in trusting appearances and learns that it’s never too late for a second chance.

Even for the unlikeliest of people.

Day #3 of the #cabingirlbooktag! ⚓️ Guys, tom Day #3 of the #cabingirlbooktag! ⚓️

Guys, tomorrow is launch day! I don't know how we've gotten here so fast but I'm thrilled! There are so many exciting things just a day away!

Today's tag prompt is about a book that features the ocean. Obviously, the ocean is a HUGE part of Cabin Girl. The primary setting, in fact.

Before writing Cabin Girl, I hadn't read too many books with a focus on the ocean. Ironically, I've never even seen the ocean in person, and I'm not a great swimmer.

So it's been quite the adventure to unpack Éirinn's very complicated relationship with the ocean (which she has for story reasons...😉).

In some ways, she struggles, and in others, she thrives. The farther into the story you go, the more inspiring her progress is. At least to me!

And on top of all that, the setting has simply been a lot of fun. Waves, storms, salty air, sharks, and ship fights...what more could you want in a pirate book? 🏴‍☠️

Have you read a book that features the ocean? If so, which one? And did you enjoy it?

Day #2 of the #cabingirlbooktag! ⚓️ How are w Day #2 of the #cabingirlbooktag! ⚓️

How are we now only two days away from launch? I'm so excited to be this close to sharing Cabin Girl with you!

Today's prompt is all about a place you dream of visiting. For me, one of those places is Ireland, so its only fitting that Ireland is my protagonist's home in this story.

Admittedly, the main reason I made it Éirinn's home is just because I wanted to write about it. I've never been to Ireland before, but maybe some day!

I love the grassy hills, rocky beaches, accents, music, ancient architecture, culture, and even history. Supposedly, I'm a slight bit Irish by blood, and although it's the tiniest amount, I claim it proudly 😉

Sadly, I never got to dive too deeply into Ireland in the book (there just wasn't room!), but I enjoyed writing within the general setting.

And in all honesty, it might not be the last book I set in Ireland because I'm just that obsessed.

What is one of your dream locations, and why? Have you been there yet?
