Happy Friday!
What can I say…I enjoy hopping in on all of the many blog and book tags on KristinKravesBooks! This one in particular is obviously perfect for this month, so I’m seizing the opportunity.
Happy early Valentine’s Day! I’d love for you to join in and share your bookish answers!
The Questions
1. Stand Alone Book You Love
Operation Lionhearted by Maribeth Barber
I read this beautiful book last year, and it was so much fun! I’m not usually a big sci-fi reader (unless it’s Star Wars…), but this made me more of one! I loved the powerful themes that the author wove in (not explicitly Christian, but definitely Christian morality), the strong and relatable characters, the plot twists, and the epic good vs bad battles. It’s one that I think I’ll need to read several times to truly grasp it all.
2. Dystopian Book You Love
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Dystopians are my guilty pleasure genre (no matter how awful and full of plot holes some of them are, I will still read and likely enjoy them…), so this is really hard! I’m going to go classic here with the Hunger Games series. I’ve only read them through once, years after watching the movie series several times, and unexpectedly, they lived up to the hype I’d built up in my mind. I’ve been wanting to reread them soon.
3. A Book That You Love But No One Else Talks About
Blank Mastermind by Rosey Mucklestone
Maybe one day I’ll stop talking about how much I love this book…but today is not that day. I read nearly the entire book in one sitting (staying up wayyyy too late to do so- it’s a long book), but I couldn’t put it down! The characters, the plot, the amnesia elements, the superhero twists, the powerful Christian messages…it’s all written so well, but because it’s a smaller indie author, I rarely see people talking about it. If it sounds like something you might enjoy, I encourage you to go check it out!
4. Favorite Book Couple
Wishtress by Nadine Brandes
I don’t know if I could ever pick an absolute favorite book couple, but Myrthe and Bastiaan from Wishtress come really close. I’m not a huge romance reader right now, but their relationship was so sweet and slow, and I loved watching both of their respective character growth. I’m a little bummed there isn’t another book with them, because I’d love to see their relationship develop more. (Bonus: it’s 100% clean!)
5. Book That Other People Love But You Haven’t Read Yet
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins
Going back to the Hunger Games theme, I’d really like to read this one. Especially now that the movie came out, I’ve been hearing more and more about the story, and I’d like to read the book before I get the entire plot spoiled for me ahead of time, haha. And yes, I know it’s been out a while, so if it gets spoiled, it’s my own fault. I’m interested to see what the author did in the prequel Panem!
6. A Book With Red on the Cover
The Stolen Kingdom by Bethany Atazadeh
This is on my wishlist! I haven’t read any books by Bethany Atazadeh yet, but I follow her socials and enjoy all of her Youtube videos, and love her sweet personality. Her releases keep getting more and more intriguing, so I’m aiming to start working through her series this year. This particular book is an Aladdin retelling, and looks fantastic!
7. A Book With Pink on the Cover
A Very Bookish Romance by multiple authors
So…it’s harder than I thought to find a book with pink on the cover!
This just released recently, and it looks like such a sweet collection! It focuses on clean romances in a variety of genres and times, and has so many talented authors too, including Sarah Holman, Abigayle Claire, J. Grace Pennington, Kellyn Roth, and Kate Willis. I haven’t read it yet, but would like to before the chance is gone! (If it sounds like your thing, please go check it out!)
8. You were given a box of chocolate. What fictional boyfriend/ or girlfriend would given them to you.
Oh boy. This feels kind of wrong, since I’m married, haha. And I’ve never really been one to have fictional boyfriends… Let’s see.
I’m going to go with Newt from The Maze Runner, I guess? I’ve always liked his character more than any of the others in that series, and honestly, my husband kind of reminds me of him. Or he reminds me of my husband. I don’t know where Newt would have found a box of chocolates though!
9. You are single on Valentines Day. What book would you read? What TV show would you watch? What movie would you watch?
Okay…another tough one. Again, this is my first Valentine’s Day being married, but I’m going to think back to previous single Bella…what media would I be consuming? Probably some heartfelt and possibly even a little sad stories that are engrossing and have some sweet romance thrown in.
Romanov by Nadine Brandes is one of my favorite books with romance in it (it’s so sweet!), so I might read that. And Psych is just one of my favorite shows, period. It does have romance so it fits, but it also has plenty of laughs, and I think I’d want that. When do I not want that, haha? And lastly, Ice Castles is one of the only primarily romance movies I would watch often. I’m not sure if it was young me wanting to be a figure skater or what, but I loved that movie when I was younger, and their romance is sweet.
10. You are in the book store. All of a sudden you get shot with an arrow by Cupid. What new release will you love?
A Bond of Briars by Erin Phillips
This book released in October of 2023, and I haven’t read it yet. I own, and am in the middle of reading, her previous release, A Crown of Chains (a biblical fantasy Esther retelling), and it’s amazing! This one is a Ruth retelling, and I’m sure I’m going to really enjoy it, with or without Cupid’s help, haha. It’s definitely going to be one of the next releases I splurge on when I let myself get any new books!
How would you answer these questions? What are some books you’ve been reading lately, or that you want to read next? Have you read any of the books I mentioned? I’d love to read your answers, so please feel free to drop them in the comments below, or hop in on this tag on your own blog! Thank you!
